Description: Our wooden 100 board will help children develop an early understanding of counting, addition, and subtraction in a highly visual and tactile way. 100 Board features one hundred holes ready for your child to fill up while counting, creating patterns, practicing mathematical equations, discovering cardinal directions, and more. It comes with 100 colorful wool balls (as shown in the photos).
Explore, learn and practice numerical bonds up to 100 using our colorful felt balls or other real objects that attract kid’s interest. Hundred boards are a great preschool activity for toddlers and an amazing hands-on learning tool and fun too! We have created this 100 board from solid wood making it durable for years of learning.
Ideas for playing with the wooden hundred board~
- Fill each hole in the board for fine motor skills development — first with fingers and then with tongs while counting from 1 to 100.
-Colour sorting with different colored balls while exercising simple counting
-Start adding and subtracting — add balls and take balls away to practice counting
-The engraved dividing lines help the child create subgroups of numbers, which means they can frame the number of items in a group quickly without counting each item individually. It is based on groups of five and whether it is more or less than five. They'll learn the number seven is five and two more. Or forty-three is the fourth row down and three holes overall without counting all forty-three dimples. There is a lot of good info available regarding subtilizing. We were introduced to it through Rightstart Math.
- Practice skip counting by placing balls only in the number you're working on such as 3, 6, 9, etc. Notice the patterns that emerge.
- Designate a quadrant of the board for you and one for your child. Place the balls in your quadrant a certain way and ask your child to copy them in their area (either exactly or as a mirror image).
- Practice forming/creating shapes, think of the board as a compass and ask your child to mark the holes that are 5 degrees west and 9 degrees south from the middle point.
- Learn positive and negative numbers by designating the middle point as 0. Then play with the X and Y axis (X being horizontal movement and the Y-axis being vertical movement). Thus, finding -3 on the X-axis is three dimples to the left of the middle.
- Play games such as rolling a dice and adding that many balls to the board (starting at the top left corner). Then roll again and add that many. Continue until the board is full.
If choosing wool balls, you will receive eleven of each color (red, orange, yellow, light green, dark green, blue, indigo, violet, purple, and pink).
Just for the natural variation in the wood, each handcrafted toy has its own unique character. Variations in wood grain, color, knots, texture are all-natural occurrences in these hand-stained wooden products. Each toy will likely vary slightly from the other one but will be equally awesome.
Toy Meets the EN71 and ASTM toy safety standards for Europe and America.
Warning! This product contains a small ball which may present a choking hazard. Not suitable for children under 3 years old.
